How are larger organisations going about setting up arrangements with their service providers?

Most companies are, or have, moved to a split billing arrangement. In some cases – the contract remains in the name of the organisation, and an allowance is paid to individuals, as a contribution towards the total cost of that contract each month. In other cases, the staff are allowed to go off and set up their own contracts in their name. In the latter option – the company generally offer staff a monthly contribution/allowance towards monthly cellphone and data costs.

There has been increasing pressure on larger companies to offer staff a more flexible working environment. Many companies in South Africa are beginning to accommodate for this – considering the implementation of BYOD (Bring your own devices) policies, and allowing their staff to work flexible hours and/or remotely. What choice do organisations really have? Younger generations now expect this kind of treatment. A Fortinet survey released recently, that was conducted among 3,800 employees in over 15 countries, found that Gen-Y employees in the workplace have an expectation—not a hope—that they will be able to use their own mobile smartphones and tablets for work-related activities. In fact, most people surveyed commented that they would be prepared to go against company policy, in order to have this privilege.
